Mazda MX5
The Used Mazda MX5 sets the standard for small sports cars, low to the ground yet totally secure and refreshingly nippy. Even better, it is also affordable at between £16,565 and £21,875. Its style is sleek, contemporary and ageless.
There are two engine sizes to choose from with the Mazda MX5, the 1.8litre, which manages 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds and the bigger 158bhp 2.0litre, which packs a little more punch and goes from a standstill to 62mph just 7.9 seconds. Fuel consumption is quite reasonable, as long as you keep your foot of the loud pedal; something that is quite difficult in this car, which just begs to be driven fast, and you should record a steady 28-35mpg. CO2 emissions range from 188g/km, about average for this type of car.
The Mazda MX5 is sold in both official UK models and ‘grey’ import versions. Though the imports often appear cheaper, there is really not a great deal of difference; the most obvious one being that the imports have square number plate holders. Genuine UK M5s have standard oblong holders and there may be a spoiler on the boot, otherwise they are exactly the same and well worth the money.
For a small car you can pack a fair bit of shopping in. The boot is a reasonable capacity and there is a small amount of space behind the seats. If you are alone in the car you could also strap baggage or shopping into the passenger seat.
Whilst this is a fantastic little car to drive, be warned that it can be a bit of a handful on wet roads. Aquaplaning over puddles might leave you feeling a little out of control, but it will definitely give you a bit of a thrill. |
